In 2008, when the family farm was offered to Courtney Karafa, she felt her childhood dream spring to life. “It was such a sweet surprise, I didn’t think very long about it before I loaded up my horse and moved back home from California.”
Even though it meant she was finally moving toward her dream of working with horses and kids, the old homestead needed a lot of work. After christening it Valley Creek Farm – Stanley Creek flows through the 80-acre farm at the bottom of the valley – she put in a new, fenced pasture and upgraded an old pole barn with five horse stalls to offer horse back riding lessons and trail rides.
A new arena, more trails and pasture have been added, a tractor and the newest addition to their horse family, Vanna, moved in last year.
Specializing in children and families, her fledgling business is growing by word of mouth. Courtney not only emphasis safety and skills with the horses, she helps them learn about taking care of them, through grooming and helping in the barn.
“We love them; they really care about teaching kids not only about riding, but about caring for horses.” said parents Kristy and Jeremy Morris.
“Can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful experience trail riding with Courtney is. So laid back, horses are sooo well trained and gentle, not to mention beautiful. These beautiful animals are a direct reflection of their owner. What a sweet, caring soul Courtney is! Thank you, Courtney! We will be back!!!” a review by Marilyn Morrison Bordeaux.
“Courtney is a wonderful person! Trail rides are always relaxing and fun. Lessons are very informational! Overall great place to ride and learn.” said Wendy Wiederhold.
